The Mexicans: History and Power in the U.S. The history between the United States and Mexico has been one of war, pain, and struggles for political power. According to the U.S. Census, there are at least 36 million people of Mexican descent in the United States, representing the largest Hispanic voting bloc in the country. However, Mexican-Americans’ political representation does not yet reflect their population growth.
